Youth Hair Braiding

Weaving Creativity, Culture, and Confidence

The Youth Hair Braiding Program is designed to introduce youth ages 13–21 to the rich artistry, technique, and cultural significance of hair braiding. This hands-on training experience empowers students to develop creativity, patience, and precision while cultivating valuable job skills and entrepreneurial confidence.


Program Overview

Through structured instruction and guided practice, students learn the fundamentals of natural hair care, sectioning, and styling while gaining an appreciation for the heritage and self-expression behind braiding traditions. The program encourages professionalism, hygiene, and client care—equipping participants with skills that can lead to self-employment or entry into cosmetology and beauty industries.

Beyond the technical aspects, the program emphasizes personal growth, self-discipline, and cultural pride, helping youth discover purpose and confidence through creative craftsmanship.


Training Focus Areas

  • Braiding Fundamentals: Techniques such as cornrows, twists, plaits, and box braids.
  • Hair & Scalp Care: Understanding texture, moisture balance, and safe hair handling.
  • Sanitation & Hygiene: Clean tool practices and client safety standards.
  • Style Design: Incorporating creativity through patterns, parting, and accessory use.
  • Cultural Awareness: Exploring the historical and cultural roots of braiding across communities.
  • Entrepreneurship Basics: Introduction to customer service, branding, and small business principles for young stylists.
