The Youth AutoWorks Program is designed to inspire and equip youth ages 13–18 with the foundational automotive knowledge and technical literacy needed to prepare for future careers in the automotive and mechanical industries. Through engaging, hands-on instruction, students learn not only how vehicles work — but also how to develop discipline, responsibility, and real-world problem-solving skills that extend far beyond the garage.

Program Overview

This program introduces students to the fundamentals of automotive technology in a safe, structured, and encouraging environment. Participants will gain practical experience under the guidance of qualified instructors while learning the importance of teamwork, attention to detail, and accountability.

The course emphasizes both career exposure and personal development, empowering young people to envision their potential in high-demand technical fields.

Training Focus Areas

• Automotive Fundamentals: Understanding vehicle systems, safety, and basic maintenance.
• Tools & Equipment: Proper use of hand tools, diagnostic devices, and shop safety protocols.
• Engine Basics: Identifying major components and understanding how they function together.
• Oil & Fluid Maintenance: Learning how to check, change, and dispose of automotive fluids safely.
• Tire & Brake Basics: Recognizing wear patterns, performing simple rotations, and understanding braking systems.
• Electrical Systems Introduction: Understanding basic wiring, lighting, and fuses.
• Career Pathways & Certifications: Exposure to automotive trades, vocational programs, and industry opportunities.

Program Details

• Ages: 13–18
• Format: In-person, hands-on training
• Class Size: Limited to 15 students per session for individualized instruction
• Schedule: Weekly sessions with project-based activities and instructor demonstrations
• Location: Jennings O’Neil Career Academy Training Lab

Students who complete the program will receive a Certificate of Achievement from Jennings O’Neil Career Academy recognizing their participation, skill development, and dedication.
