The Construction Technology program at Jennings O’Neil Career Academy is a comprehensive, hands-on training program designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in residential, commercial, and industrial construction. Built around the nationally recognized NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) curriculum, students develop the practical skills, technical knowledge, and workplace professionalism employers expect in today’s construction workforce.

Construction Technology Program

If you are interested in building a career in construction, skilled trades, or general contracting, this program is for you. Through a combination of classroom instruction and 85% hands-on training, students gain real-world experience using industry-standard tools, materials, and equipment while learning safe and effective construction practices.

Training includes blueprint reading, construction math, hand and power tool operation, construction drawings, framing, drywall installation, carpentry, roofing fundamentals, flooring, painting, basic electrical, plumbing, concrete work, demolition, finishing techniques, material handling, employability skills, and job site safety.

Students work in simulated construction environments where they practice building, repairing, installing, and finishing projects that mirror real construction sites. Throughout the program, students develop craftsmanship, teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills that prepare them to contribute immediately on residential and commercial construction projects.

Hands-On Learning

Students spend approximately 85% of the program participating in practical, instructor-led laboratory activities and construction projects. Training emphasizes proper tool usage, quality workmanship, teamwork, safety procedures, and industry best practices while completing projects from start to finish.

NCCER Industry Credential

The program follows the nationally recognized NCCER curriculum, providing students with industry-recognized training that is respected by construction employers across the United States. Students have the opportunity to earn NCCER credentials, demonstrating competency in core construction skills and increasing their employment opportunities.

Program Details

This program is ideal for individuals 17 years of age and older.

Program delivery occurs at an accelerated pace, making it attractive for workforce development participants, career changers, veterans, re-entry programs, and employers seeking skilled construction professionals.

  • Classes are held in person.
  • Students may self-enroll or be referred by workforce partners.
  • Maximum class size: 20 students.
  • Financial assistance may be available through eligible workforce funding programs.

Program Duration

427 Hours

The curriculum combines classroom instruction, NCCER coursework, laboratory exercises, and extensive hands-on construction projects to prepare graduates for immediate employment in the construction industry.
